This time I came to Haidian, Beijing to attend a university academic seminar. After comparing accommodation options, I chose Beijing New Century Hotel. After staying there, I realized that this old landmark hotel, which has been rooted in Haidian for many years, has a rare sense of down-to-earth living experience in the Zhongguancun area, making it the most comfortable destination for my academic trip to Beijing.
It's only a ten minute walk from Peking University East Gate Subway Station, passing by many old locust trees of universities along the way, full of the unique scholarly atmosphere of Haidian. As soon as I arrived at the hotel entrance, the doorman quickly stepped forward to help open the glass door and took the large file box filled with academic materials from my hand. The boiled pumpkin Congee is sweet but not greasy. Even I, a southern scholar who doesn't like sweet, even drank two bowls of it. At night, if you don't want to go out, order the signature Beijing roast duck from the Chinese restaurant downstairs. The crispy skin and tender meat are paired with translucent lotus leaf pancakes, and you don't have to go to the old city to queue up. You can enjoy authentic old Beijing flavors.
Living here for a few days, traveling and having fun are particularly worry free. It takes only ten minutes to walk to Haidian Park. After the meeting, take a leisurely stroll and watch grandparents fly kites. There is no need to rush to scenic spots, and the relaxation is full. It takes fifteen minutes to drive directly to the Summer Palace, and after strolling along the long corridor, you can also visit the ruins of the Summer Palace. The day's itinerary is packed, but you won't waste energy on the road at all. In my spare time, I went to the hotel's indoor heated swimming pool. The water quality was clean and there were not many people. After swimming, I went to the nearby gym to practice for a while. The equipment was well maintained and there was no need to compete for a spot. Before leaving, I accidentally left my academic conference USB drive in the conference room. After checking out, I realized that I was trying it out and called the front desk. That afternoon, I received a package from the hotel that didn't even cover the shipping cost.
Throughout the entire stay, there were no deliberate internet celebrity gimmicks, but the convenience of the core area of Haidian and the reliability of old hotels were perfectly integrated. Compared to the fast-paced business hotels around Zhongguancun, the quietness and comfort of Beijing New Century Hotel actually gave me a rare sense of relaxation during my busy academic schedule.
